Nikon presents, “Broken Night”

When it came to HDSLRs, Canon was in a category of one among moviemakers and cinematographers. Nikon wasn’t even part of the conversation. However, with the D800, Nikon finally had a camera that could level the playing field. But rather than launching an ad campaign to reach this small but influential audience, we created a short film shot entirely on the D800. To prove this camera can make anything beautiful, Award-winning writer, Guillermo Arriaga and two-time Academy award winning cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski, were asked to make a “beautiful horror movie.” The result was Broken Night.

Broken Night became an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival 2013 and won bronze at the One Show Awards.

The film was complimented by a Tumblr blog (brokennightmovie.com) that documented the entire filmmaking process until the launch of the movie. Viewers were invited to peek behind the production curtain and discover how the D800 was pushed to its limits.

Broken Night was praised by the press.
